Star Rules Clarification
There have been some questions about the upcoming Star Event. Here are some answers. : )If you still have questions, please send me an email at ominoj37@yahoo.com.
1)Decks are minimum 60 cards (no max), Standard Format with no sideboards unless your deck has a way to access them in the first (and only) game of each round. Starting life totals are 20. Starting hand size is seven. Since it is one game per round, each player can use one free mulligan, but then must lose a card as normal for additional mulligans.
2)All cards must be of the same color. Artifacts and colorless are okay. Gold cards are not allowed. Cards with activation costs different from their mana cost (like cavern thoctar, a green card with a red costed ability) are not allowed. Lands must match the color of the deck (forests for a green deck). No lands that produce a different color are allowed (so no raging ravines). Colorless lands (like dread statuary and techtonic edge) and lands that fetch other lands (terramorphic expanse, verdant catacombs, etc) are okay, but remember they will only be able to get one kind of basic land (whatever matches your deck's color).
3)Cards that benefit you in any way from a different color than your own are not allowed. Wild Nacatl is not allowed (but you are not allowed to have plains or forests anyway. Skeletonize is similiarly banned since it gives a red deck access to a black creature.
4)"Hoser" cards (great sable stag, flashfreeze, celestial purge, etc) that punish another color are fine. There is no guarantee, though, that we will have a perfect mix of colors at the event. Your enemies may include ally colors or even a deck the same color as you. We will do our best to have perfect stars with one of each color each round, but if half the field is mono black there is only so much that can be done.
5)We will play 45 minute rounds. When time is called active palyer will finish their turn and then each other player will receive one turn. Number of rounds will depend on turnout. Each round you will earn points by defeating your opponents and keeping your allies alive. At the end of the round, one point will be awarded for each ally alive and two points for each enemey defeated. However, to avoid collusion, if no one is defeated at the end of the round, no one will receive any points in that particular star "pod".
6)To encourage diversity, the player(s) who bring the least played color will receive an additional league point regardless of performance. In the case of a tie, both colors would earn points for the players.
In Star, five players each represent one of the five colors of Magic (white, blue, black, red, and green) by playing a deck featuring only cards of that color. Decks may not include any cards that reference a different color or a basic land that produces a different color of mana.
Players sit in a star pattern identical to the one on the back of every Magic: The Gathering card. The player with the white deck takes the first time and then play continues clockwise around the table.
A color, and the player representing it, wins when its two enemy colors have been eliminated regardless of who eliminated them. This means a player may be able to win even after being eliminated from play! Each player can attack any other player (even their allies), and each player can target any player, permanent, spell, or anything else in the game. Decks are usually built following Standard deck-construction rules

Top Decks Feature (Legacy)
Legacy is a really fun format that lets you play cards from any set in magic except for the silver bordered Unglued and Unhinged. This can be a little intimidating if you are a new player. Here are some of the decks that have been doing well lately at Columbia Free Magic. Feel free to copy them or make your own monster that will crush them. Happy building!
1)G/W/B Rock or "Junk". This deck uses efficient creatures like tarmogoyf and Knight of the Reliquary along with card advantage spells like Hymn to Tourach to grind out advantageous board states where they have at least one morethreat than their opponents has answers. Here is a decklist http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=37047 Potential Weaknesses: Hyper aggressive decks like Mono Red Burn or glacially slow decks like Landstill
2)Dredge. This deck abuses it's graveyard by using a card called Bridge from Below that makes zombie tokens even when it is in the graveyard and several "dredgers" like Golgari Grave Troll that repeatedly put useful cards into the graveyard. Decklist: http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=37034 Potential Weaknesses: Anything that can repeatedly remove graveyards. Once is not enough.
3)Affinity. This deck makes lots of artifacts very quickly and boosts their power using an equipment called Cranial Plating or sacrifices some to make one huge creature using an artifact creature called Arcbound Ravager. They also play a card called disciple of the vault that hurts their opponent whenever an artifact dies. Decklist: http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=37037 Potential Weaknesses: Decks with both pinpoint removal like Swords to Plowshares to deal with Disciple and mass removal to destroy lots of artifacts at once.
4)Landstill. This control deck plays lots of counters and an enchantment called Standstill that lets a player draw three cards if their opponent plays a spell. By playing lots of lands that can turn into creatures like Mishra's Factory, Landstill can win if neither person plays spells. Decklist:
http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=36639 Potential Weaknesses: Decks that win quickly without relying on one key spell to resolve and/or decks that feature creatures with island walk that its lands can't block.
There are lots more decks, but these are a good starting point to consider. Have fun!
